Jemma is a total sweetheart who comes off as shy at first but blossoms into the biggest cuddler you have ever been around.  She will snuggle up to you 24/7, I am sure she would crawl inside your clothes to be closer to you if you let her.  It is not that she is a stage 47 clinger, it is just she wants all the love and affection from you.

If Jemma was to be in the human workforce, she would be some sort of therapist.  She likes to be with people and has a calm disposition around her person. #ThinkBobRossVoiceButInDogForm  If there is something that she wants or is looking for attention from her person she does a sassy little whine or bark, but it is very quiet as she is an extremely polite dog.  Once she has your attention she will start waggin’ her tail which quickly turns into her whole body wagging which looks hilarious.

This lady loves car rides and is so happy in the car.  The vet’s office is a different story though, she was pretty nervous and not super stoked to be there.  Loud noises do not seem to bother her at all, which is a plus!  As with all dogs proper introductions to new environments to include both human and 4 legged friends is key, and slow is best for Jemma.  She can be reactive on leash around other dogs, but a quick correction by her handler usually fixes that.  But with humans both large and small she just kind of freezes and becomes overwhelmed very quickly.  So, slow is best for Jemma.  Cats have been moved up the list of things to chase if the opportunity arises, and once proper introductions are completed, she enjoys the company of another dog.

During Jemma’s time in foster care, she has mastered Sit to Greet, Come, Sit, Down, Wait, and Load-up commands.  She is diligently working on better leash manners, plus Place and Kennel commands.  She is house-trained and uses a dog door to go outside at her foster’s home, as for crate training, we recommend a high-anxiety crate such as an Impact Crate or Ruffland Kennel for Jemma since she will try to get out of a wire crate.  With training she is motivated by praise, she is interested in toys, but praise will win her over.  She will need a confident but soft handler since any type of correction with a collar other than a flat one or a martingale will make her shut down, and even a stern “no” will make her weary of what is coming next.  While in the house she has never been destructive and will check the counters to see what you are doing but won’t proceed with any thievery.  #JustLookinBoss

Jemma is looking for her forever home, and it would be best if it was rather calm overall, and she would continue her training as well. She loves to run so maybe an active home as well.  We think that she would be fine around older calm kids and another dog in the home as well.  So if you are looking for a girl who needs a home that can polish her until she shines like a diamond, look no further than Jemma.

Our adoption process includes the completion of an application, followed by a phone interview.
