Kanchi is a sweet and energetic young boy who is silly, loves to snuggle, and will add some spunk into your life. He loves to run and play fetch but is also totally content hanging out with you, begging for love, or munching away on a bone. He has made huge strides in learning what a polite dog should behave like and has shown that he really is the goodest, goofiest boy who just needs clear boundaries and guidance.

If Kanchi were a human he could do so many things! He would thrive being an Olympic sprinter, or a snorkeler. He LOVES to play ball so maybe even a soccer player?! He might even make a great personal trainer- he has fun and bubbly energy and would get any of us pumped enough to do that one more rep! Who’s looking for a workout cuddle buddy?

Occasionally, Kanchi will become overstimulated which transfers into anxious behavior, so he needs a handler able to recognize the signs to easily redirect him and keep his focus on his person. With his desire to please and level of food drive for medium value treats doing simple focus exercises have been very helpful with this. He also can be a bit pushy for affection so clear boundaries are a must. Overall, Kanchi is easy to please and with some physical and mental stimulation (he loves his morning treadmill walks), he happily naps while his foster works making him an excellent office co-worker.

Kanchi LOVES people and will greet and lick everyone and be super chill if not slightly overbearing with his attention. With his foster siblings, he has made immense progress in his communication and behavior towards them and has even shown interest in slight play with a friendly, neutral male dog. He isn’t reactive to chickens or goats but cannot safely live with cats or other small animals.

Kanchi is potty trained, crate trained, rides calmly crated in the car, is well mannered at the vets’ office, and not bothered by loud noises. He has impeccable house manners, is working diligently on intermediate skills, and is non-destructive. Although he doesn’t have any naughty habits like counter surfing or raiding the trash, he will try to test boundaries. He takes corrections very well, without transferring to the handler and doesn’t need a heavy hand but will need a handler who can keep him honest and not let him revert to undesirable habits. He is e-collar and bark collar conditioned and does wear an e-collar when out of the kennel. He doesn’t need corrections often since his foster has ensured the boundaries are clear and his day is structured.

Kanchi is looking for a moderately active family with a calm and chaos free home. He would do fine as a solo dog, but with slow, controlled introductions, he could do fine with a non-dominant dog. He has made great progress with his reactivity from when he first came to rescue, but he still has moments where he’s slightly more focused on other dogs. This reiterates the need for him to have a handler who can recognize and anticipate these behaviors, while working to help shed these habits altogether.

If you are looking for a goofy, water and ball loving pup, then Kanchi is your guy! He may enjoy handler focused sports that include his favorites so perhaps Dock Diving, Flyball, Disc are in his future. He will give you as much affection as you can handle and will cuddle up on the couch or in bed after a funday exploring the trails. He will make you laugh when he takes a grass bath and will no doubt continue to thrive in the right home.
