Wagner might be the sweetest sugar-faced fella we have ever had in the rescue! This guy is more than a gem, he is the brightest diamond ever. He just wants all the love and affection he has been missing out on all these years aka #LoveSponge. Want to know more about this gentleman?
If Wagner had a human job, it would surely be a sidekick. Do you want to go on a 5-mile hike, Wagner does. Need to run to the hardware store for the 7th time today, Wagner wants to go too. After work drinks at the brewery, Wagner is down to go. You can see where this is going, anything you want to do he will be happy to be by your side while doing it with you. He has yet to meet a human that he didn’t like which is always a plus considering how people are these days. At his foster home, he peacefully coexists with a 1-year-old female Malinois and an 8-year-old Dutch Shepherd.
If there was something that Wagner loves more than his person it might just be car rides, not too sure what it is about them but man it gets him excited to go! His foster says that the thing that makes her laugh that he is before mealtime and when he realizes that he is getting to go with her outside the house he starts bouncing like he has small springs in his feet. #CarRidesWillMakeYaJumpJump He is a pretty social fella when out and about with other dogs, when they are approaching or passing on the trails during hikes he is fine with it. He has hackled at a few dogs while at a brewery once before, not too sure why but was easily corrected with leash pressure. Wagner has a talkative and pushy play style, and if often the “fun police” when other dogs are having fun. He will need continued guidance and structure to ensure he makes good choices.
During Wagner’s time in foster care, his foster has been r training him in German and English so he has mastered Sitz/Sit command. Other commands he is still working on are Platz/Place, Hier/Recall, Bleib/Wait, Fuss/Heel, Off, Nein/No, Ja/Yes, Eye Contact, and recognizing his name. He is crate trained and will gladly go in it at bedtime, reports are he does not make a fuss or noise while in it, and when coming out of it he just moseys along. There have been times he has shown resource guarding in the home such as grumbling at other dogs while they are wanting attention while he is getting attention from his foster mom. Additionally, he has never shown any signs of being destructive in the home but does need to work on his house manners such as marking and counter surfing (might have been an outside dog before).
Wagner is looking for a forever home that could come in many different shapes or forms. He could fit well into an active family that has older kids, also he could be great with a single person who likes to just have a buddy around the house. His nose is very active, and when coupled with his love of food he might be able to do some sport-level scent work in the future as well. If something is moving outside the house, you will know it because he will bark letting you know! Overall Wagner is a pretty chill guy who needs a little more training to be the sugar face knight in shining armor that you have been looking for! #LetsGetWagnerAHomeForChristmas
